Topic: Fairwear
This workshop will focus on the ethics of consumerism in the textile and fashion
industry, a world leader in exploitation. The lamentable situation of many forced
to work to support current styles and trends will be examined, including the
reality of outworkers here in Australia. The role of Fairwear will be explored
as an organisation and movement which seeks to combat these kinds of worldwide

greater understanding of the ethics involved in the fashion industry, be equipped
with the skills to be conscious consumers, and inspired to advocate for change.
Dez Karlsson currently works as the Industrial Officer for the NSW Textile Clothing and Footwear Union, auditing for the No Sweatshop Label and was previously an active Fair Wear Campaigner
